Chapter 1805 - 1804 - The World is Only a Step Away
Lind let Ryl sweat a bit longer but the demoness, Shatterheart, seemed inclined to let the Dusk Grypwolf learn how to fight humanoid figures.
He had also trained Ryl but his role as packleader made the young beast hold back. There was no such restriction with the demoness. Her ability with a bow was also not something the Dusk Grypwolf had dealt with.
He updated the princess on the current situation while the other guards began to get ready to move. Their energy was much higher than when he saw them hunting.
The prospect of meat had been good yet now they moved as if a fire had been lit in all their hearts. In a way, it had.
"Divine Lord Lind Frey–" He held up his hands to stop her.
"It gets old being called so formally. You can call me senior or simply Lind Frey. I am acting of my own volition." He saw the demon princess swallow hard. She seemed to be intimidated by him even more than before.
Still, she quickly adapted.
"Senior Frey, while I highly appreciate your help, we will only slow you down on the journey back to the teleportation array." He repressed a giggle.
He was half tempted to ask if she had ever ridden on the back of a dragon. Still, that would take too long.
The same was true of flying artifacts and his ships. Based on the relative locations, it would take about 2 to 3 years of flight if they did not stop.
While that was a very short time in terms of everything else, that assumed the teleportation array was ready to go when they arrived. Even though he could circumvent it, the large group would strain him to cross the Void Ocean.
It would also cause such a disruption that every Divine Realm cultivator would know they had left and arrived.
There was a better way.
"Just make sure everything is stored away that can be and I will take care of the rest." He did not explain as it would become clear enough.
His ring suddenly became warm. Haro was letting him know the information had arrived.
He summoned the palm sized jade stone and it lit up briefly before his aura connected. Most of the information was what he had been told but there was a massive change in the last 250 years.
The Veridian Bone Sect had been posting missions like any other sect but the failure rate was rather odd. In fact, it was downright suspicious as promising seeds of outer disciples would go out and never return.
Yet, there were hardly any posts to go find the missing disciples. Shoti had dug deeper and Qing confirmed her findings. The missions were taken up by disciples no one could remember ever meeting or hearing about.
There were, however, various powers under their watch that did match those names. They had also applied to the sect entrance trials that were held every 10 years.
The distribution was just enough to not be noticed and further, to be believable to the families that survived them.
What his 2 wives confirmed was that while messages were sent to the families that their relatives got in, the sect never displayed the chosen outer sect disciples ever.
Only new inner and core disciples had their likeness posted for all to see. That difference in treatment was not too odd. It was just the link to the missing members was now confirmed by them.
The sect had been piling up applicants like cord wood somewhere. His face became barely contained wrath until he felt a soft head of fur brush against his arm. He looked down and found Ryl’s head rubbing against him.
The pack bond was very sensitive but he had no doubt the powerful nose on Ryl could smell it.
"It is all right. I can reign it in still." He reassured Ryl. The camp was finally almost packed up but they had some excess items. He took them into his ring.
In all, there were only about 20 people in front of him.
"Senior Frey, we are ready. How will we get to the teleportation array at Genos?" The name was only now told to him. Lind realized he was quite spoiled that he did not even know the name of the city where the intercontinental array was located.
He looked at Princess Bryth with a smile before he floated up into the sky. His hands glowed with emerald light as he began to engrave into the very air. Crystal powder flowed from his ring as Haro aided him.
The sparkling elemental power was of all 18 of them. His dantian stirred, specifically his Time Layer. A perfect memory was not enough to tear through space with ease anymore.
The chaos of the Void Ocean was only 1 factor that prevented him tearing through space with such a large group. The power was not a problem but the lack of subtlety was more irksome.
He could do it but only like a brute force method. Effective, but unable to hide anything from anyone.
The air began to darken as a familiar circular shape appeared. Lind had not left without an ability to get back quickly without having the entire Divine Lands know he had shown up somewhere.
The only limit was the fact someone like him could do it. Origin Seeds and his Origin Mysteries were both the lock and key to the process.
Eventually, a partially solid crystal circle appeared in the air. He then crafted steps of air and dust. It would all peacefully collapse once he was done.
The group stared in awe at the massive weaving given form.
"Have you ever heard of the Law Gates?" Princess Bryth shook her head and seemed confused by his words. He was not surprised. "I improved them later yet the Divine Lands have always presented a powerful challenge. The key was tearing through space first."
He felt a little tired, yet compared to other works, he had done the heavy lifting long ago.
He put his palms together as he connected to his weaving. The sigils began to glow brighter as the icy air was suddenly pushed back. The pressure was building as the circle filled with energies clashing.
Lightning began to cascade and he felt it was almost there.
[Past to the Present, open the way.] His words thundered not only in his mind but the area in general. Harsh light flashed as time, not space, was torn open. It barely caused a ripple to the shock of everyone.
A massive spatial tear would have been felt across the continent, yet now a swirling portal was opened as if it was the door of a building!
The storm quickly stabilized and a woman with golden robes tipped in black stepped through with another woman in pure white robes also tipped in black. Ryl began wagging his tail so fast it caused its own small storm.
"I really did not think the Time Gate would work the way you explained it. It really spun up and connected to such a flimsy exit." Lind smiled at Kora’s sass. Karu smiled at him as he was glad to see her again.
"S–s–senior Frey! What–what is this?!" Bryth was slack jawed as even more legendary figures had casually entered her life. Lind laughed but waved them one.
"The world is only a step away. Go! This will not last forever." The soldiers moved thanks to their training. Shatterheart collected the princess as his wives were already spoiling Ryl!
He sighed but followed them all up the steps. He looked back at the mix of ice and forest one last time.
He doubted he could come back after his next action for a while. Ryl would get a much richer experience in the Southern Continent as well. He also felt like he had achieved what he needed to.
He had the name of his next layer. He had helped a new species come into existence as well. He could not really complain.
As he was about to step in he paused. The feeling of his dantian pulled at him and he realized his new layer was more than he had imagined. The pattern of life was complex, random, and fated all at once.
He could feel the facets becoming clearer. He smiled wider as he stepped through and emerged from a ring of myriad colors.
Sparks of lighting were flowing around it and the raised platform showed some scorching. He looked back and smiled at what he saw.
It was a gathering of people frozen staring at the open portal with his hands outstretched.
He looked back into the large chamber to find the rest of his wives smiling at the fully confused guards and princess. Even Shatterheart was now slackjawed.
"Read the weaving on the floor." All their heads comically moved at once to see words glowing on the floor.
{Future to the Present, awaiting the path.}
It had been an experiment and even Lind was shocked that he could take a part of a facet to create a powerful artifact. The physical gate was the future and the other end created by him would reach back from his current point to the completed gate.
He had expected to possibly shift through time but it did not work that way. It instead became instantaneous transportation. From testing, he had learned that his layer could imprint a location in his past and so long as it still existed, he could reach out to the present from wherever he was.
In essence, he made an artifact that could only work when he was away from it in both space and time!
He would need it in the future, obviously, which would become his present. His layer would then allow him to connect to the artifact he left in the past to complete the bridge.
It made his head hurt until he simply realized Time was not just about future events but simply adapting to events and decisions. Creating something to be used in the future was normal, the Time Layer just allowed a unique way to skip back to a place he had imprinted.
It removed the space in between through time. He was the only one who could make it work so there was no danger of others making it or using it. It also required a physical gate on the receiving end as he could never go out through it.
The image dissolved as the sigils completed their work. The present had moved and settled. It was time to go to war.
